Upcoming Dates

The next graduations at Lackland.

BMT graduation parades are held every Thursday. Here are the upcoming dates so you can plan ahead — your Airman's squadron will confirm their exact date.

Next graduation parade
Dates reflect the standard weekly Thursday parade. Holidays and training adjustments can shift a week — always confirm your Airman's date before booking travel.
Graduation Week

Two days you'll never forget.

BMT graduation at JBSA-Lackland runs across two mornings. Here's the rhythm of the week, what each event means, and how to be ready — exact times shift weekly, so always confirm with BMT's official schedule.

DAY 1
WED

Coin Ceremony Day

Pfingston Reception Center (PRC)

Airman's Run

A 1.5-mile run marking the end of training. Line up in the Airman's Arena to cheer — your first glimpse of your Airman in 7.5 weeks.

Informational briefing & new spouse orientation

A welcome briefing in the PRC auditorium, plus an orientation for new Air Force and Space Force spouses.

Coin & Retreat Ceremony

Your trainee receives the Airman or Guardian coin and officially becomes an Airman. Families "tap out" their loved one afterward.

Town Pass / Liberty begins

After the ceremony, your Airman can leave base and spend time with family for the first time.

DAY 2
THU

Graduation Parade

JBSA-Lackland parade grounds

Graduation Parade

The formal parade in dress blues. Airmen march the "bomb run" and pass in review — the moment you've been waiting for.

Tap-out & photos

Families reunite with their Airman on the field for photos right after the parade.

Liberty continues

More time together on the installation, with activities available. Many Airmen ship to tech school Friday or Saturday.

Make the most of it

Bring your own vehicle — rideshares can't enter the base, and staying minutes away means less traffic, more time together.

Dress for the weather

San Antonio runs hot most of the year and ceremonies are partly outdoors. Bring sun protection and water; in summer, pack a poncho for afternoon storms.

Can't travel? Watch live

The Gateway Wing live-streams graduation events on YouTube and Facebook, so grandparents and relatives back home can watch in real time. Gateway Wing on YouTube ↗

Accessibility

Accessible parking and seating are available, and buses run from the PRC to the parade grounds. Arrive early and check the official guide for the current setup.

Exact ceremony times change weekly and by season. Always confirm against BMT's official, weekly-updated schedule before you travel: basictraining.af.mil graduation schedule ↗
Getting On Base

Onto Lackland, without the stress.

A few things every graduation family needs before the gate — and why staying close makes the mornings easier.

Bring a REAL ID

Every adult needs a valid government photo ID that's REAL ID compliant to enter the installation.

Your Airman requests your pass

Trainees can request a base installation pass for up to six guests who don't already hold a military or DoD ID. Children under 18 with a parent don't need their own.

You'll want your own vehicle

Rideshares can't enter the base. Drive yourself — the home has a double garage plus driveway parking, and you're only minutes from the gate.

Arrive early on parade day

The Thursday parade draws big crowds and parking fills fast. Being minutes away means you can leave later and still beat the rush.

Getting Here & Around

Easy to reach, easy to settle in.

From the airport to the front door to stocking the fridge — here's how the logistics come together.

~25–30 min

From SAT airport

San Antonio International (SAT) is the closest airport — a short, easy drive to the Westside and the base.

Rent a car

You'll need wheels

Since rideshares can't enter the base, plan to rent at the airport. Parking at the home is free and plentiful.

H-E-B nearby

Stock the kitchen

A San Antonio H-E-B grocery store is close by — handy for breakfasts, snacks, and a celebration meal at the house.

Any hour

Self check-in

Flights land late and ceremonies start early — let yourself in with the smart lock whenever you arrive.

Where families stay

Built for a graduation weekend.

Room for everyone

Sleeps six across a king, a queen, and two twins — matching the six guests your Airman can sign onto base.

Minutes from the gate

The Wednesday Airman's Run starts early — being close means a calmer morning and more time on base.

A backyard to decompress

After emotional days, gather around the fire pit. Room for kids and pets to unwind too.

Full kitchen & laundry

Multi-day, multi-generation stays are easy with a real kitchen and in-unit washer and dryer.

Self check-in, any hour

Land late, leave early, never wait on a handoff — the smart lock is yours around the clock.

Park your own car

Double garage plus two driveway spaces — exactly what you need when rideshares can't reach the base.

Things To Do

Celebrate in San Antonio.

Once your Airman has liberty, the city is yours. Here's how families make the most of the days around graduation.

~20 min

The Alamo & downtown

Walk the grounds of the iconic mission, then explore the plazas and history of downtown San Antonio.

~20 min

The River Walk

Stroll the river, hop a barge cruise, and pick a patio table for a celebratory dinner along the water.

~20 min

The Pearl District

A lively former brewery turned food-and-shopping hub — great for a relaxed family meal and a walk.

~10 min

SeaWorld San Antonio

Minutes away and perfect for the kids — a fun, easy outing close to the house.

See the SeaWorld guide
~15 min

Six Flags Fiesta Texas

Coasters and a water park for a high-energy celebration day, a short drive from the home.

See the Six Flags guide
~20 min

Market Square (El Mercado)

The largest Mexican market in the U.S. — colorful shopping and authentic Tex-Mex to toast your Airman.

That first meal off base

After 7.5 weeks of the chow hall, your new Airman will be dreaming of a real meal. Whether it's a steakhouse, Tex-Mex on the River Walk, or a feast you cook in the home's full kitchen — make it count.

"A wonderful first Airbnb experience — beautiful and welcoming. We booked it for my grandson's graduation from Air Force Basic Military Training at Lackland AFB. Great location near restaurants and a grocery store, with a grill, s'mores set-ups, a fire pit, and a 2-car garage. I can only give 5 stars but would give more if I could!"

Graduation questions

What families ask us.

How many nights should we book?
Most families arrive Tuesday so they're rested for the Wednesday Airman's Run and Coin Ceremony, then leave Friday or Saturday after the Thursday parade — three to four nights. Use the planner at the top to map it to your exact dates.
How far is the home from Lackland?
It's on San Antonio's Westside, minutes from the gate. That matters most on Wednesday and Thursday mornings, when ceremonies start early and parking fills fast.
Can the whole family fit?
Yes — the home sleeps six across a king, a queen, and two twin beds, which lines up neatly with the up-to-six guests your Airman can add to a base pass.
Can we check in late after our flight?
Absolutely. Self check-in with a smart lock means you can arrive any hour without coordinating a handoff.
What do we need to get on base?
A valid REAL ID for each adult, and a base installation pass your Airman requests for guests who don't hold a military or DoD ID. Children under 18 with a parent don't need a separate pass. Confirm the current specifics on BMT's official graduation page.
What's the closest airport, and do we need a car?
San Antonio International (SAT) is closest — roughly 25–30 minutes away. Plan to rent a car: rideshares can't enter the base, and parking at the home is free.
Can relatives who can't travel still watch?
Yes. The Gateway Wing live-streams graduation events on YouTube and Facebook, so family back home can watch the ceremony in real time.
What if the graduation date changes?
Training dates can shift. Booking direct here includes a free cancellation window, so you can adjust if your Airman's date moves — far more flexibility than a non-refundable hotel block.
Is the home pet-friendly?
Yes. Well-behaved pets are welcome, and the fenced backyard gives them a safe place to play.

A proud week deserves the right home base.
